While Google is gradually phasing out reCAPTCHA v2, we understand that this transition can still be challenging for some users. Even though Google now recommends switching to reCAPTCHA Cloud, not everyone is ready or able to make that change yet.
That’s why we’ve decided to reintroduce reCAPTCHA v2 support in the Email Form module.
Why we brought back reCAPTCHA v2
Since Google announced the eventual deprecation of reCAPTCHA v2, many developers and site owners have been exploring alternatives. However, v2 remains a trusted and familiar solution for many existing projects.
Because Google has not yet announced a strict end-of-life date, we want to give users the flexibility to keep using it — without having to immediately reconfigure their forms.
Google’s new direction: reCAPTCHA Cloud
As we explained earlier in our blog post “Google reCAPTCHA moves to Cloud — what this means for the Email Form module”, Google is shifting towards the Cloud version of reCAPTCHA.
This modern approach offers more control and improved API integration but requires some additional server-side configuration. For those ready to adopt the new standard, reCAPTCHA Cloud remains the recommended long-term solution.
