As of 15-05-2025, all modules support an extended list of domain names for local development, in line with ExpressionEngine’s licensing guidelines.
Local Development Usage
Modules may be used freely in a local development environment when hosted on:
- An approved Top-Level Domain (TLD), or
- An approved Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) domain
- This applies only to development environments. Production use still requires a valid, licensed domain.
Approved Top-Level Domains (TLDs)
You may use any of the following TLDs for your local development setup:
- .acc
- .acceptance
- .demo
- .dev (deprecated — support will be removed soon)
- .example
- .invalid
- .loc
- .local
- .localhost
- .sandbox
- .stage
- .staging
- .test
- .testing
- .vm
Approved Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) Domains
Modules are also allowed for development use on any of the following hosted development environments or wildcard subdomains:
- amazonaws.com
- elasticbeanstalk.com
- frb.io
- herokuapp.com
- xip.io
- localtest.me
- ddev.site
- lndo.site
Notes
- License checks: If you are running your environment under one of the approved domains, module license validation will be bypassed.
- Production domains: A valid license is always required for production use on live domains that are not listed above.
